Day Eighteen – March 6, 2010
I woke up feeling that it was finally time to leave Palm Springs. After getting out of bed, I started cleaning the bedroom I had been sleeping in for the last eight nights. I then started packing my truck.
Sam finally caught on and asked me if I was leaving. I told him that it was time to go. I always had a good sense of when to stay and when to leave. It was most definitely time to move on.
I thanked Sam for a wonderful time and told him I was entirely grateful for our new friendship and everything he had shared. After packing my truck, I walked out to the grapefruit tree to get some grapefruits for my drive and remembered the hummingbird nest that Sam and I had discovered the evening before. I took a photo for my journal. The nest had one small hummingbird egg in it.
Sam walked me out to my truck and told me that he loved me and that I was very special to him. I felt the same way about him.
I drove five hours from Palm Springs, California, to Phoenix, Arizona. I spent most of the drive thinking about my new friends in Palm Springs and wondered how they would fit into my life in the future. I was so happy to spend time with Sam and very glad I met many of his friends.
I arrived in Phoenix a couple of hours before sunset. It was too dark to search for a campsite, so I found an inexpensive hotel just off the highway.
After I checked into my hotel, I called Lee to tell him that I was no longer in Palm Springs and wouldn’t be able to hang out. He sounded disappointed but understood that I was on a journey and had to leave whenever I was called to do so. I asked him to stay in touch and keep me updated on the success of his art gallery.
I spent the next several hours updating my journal and preparing for a good night’s rest.
