Parent – Teacher, Not Preacher
Day Sixty-Two – April 19, 2010
I checked out of my hotel room at noon. I wanted to hit the road and head to Charlottesville, but Jake wanted to spend the day with me, so I met him in downtown Roanoke. We spent the day exploring different parts of the city and took a few minutes to seal the window on my camper shell, which had developed a small leak.
After working on my truck, Jake and I headed downtown for a bite. I brought my Voyager cards into the restaurant to determine my next destination. While we were playing with the cards, our waiter inquired about the type of cards I had, and Jake offered my services to do a reading for her. She said she had the time, and since I had no objections, she sat down for a 5-minute reading.
The reading revealed that she was very sorrowful about the situation at home. She was deeply in love with a man who had left temporarily, and her family and friends were trying to convince her to leave him for good. Our reading was able to help clear some of that up for her. At one point, I thought she was going to start crying, but she held it together. I could tell that the information that came through changed her very positively. She was receiving no support from her friends or family, and the knowledge that came through asked her to stick to her guns and remain steadfast in her love for this man. I was so happy to help her.
After Jake and I finished our meal, we headed to the country for a short hike in the woods. We came upon this gorgeous stream with hundreds, if not thousands, of tiny tadpoles swimming around the bottom.
Tadpole/Frog brings the following message, which was magnified a thousand times:
- Reminder of common bonds with all life
- Singer of songs that celebrate the most ancient watery beginnings
- Transformation
- Cleansing
- Understanding emotions
- Rebirth

Once I discovered the message offered by tadpoles, I instantly thought of our waiter in the restaurant. I honestly felt our reading brought about some cleansing and rebirth for her.
I dropped Jake off at his house. As he was getting out of my truck, I asked him to think of a song I should use for this page. I said goodbye and then headed towards the interstate. I drove up Interstate 81 towards Lexington, Virginia, and continued north until I reached Interstate 64. At that point, I headed east on I-64 until I reached Charlottesville, Virginia.
I pulled over to get some gas and to find a campground and discovered the following message from Jake in my email Inbox:
Hey Chris,
Just wanted to thank you for a great two days. Nothing happens by chance or coincidence and the gifts you brought into my life will last an eternity. I don’t wanna get too emotional or mushy, but just wanted you to know I don’t take what you said to me for granted and it was exactly what I needed to hear.
Looking for the song to send you for the past 2 days, I think it’s perfect. Hope you think so too.
Be safe on your journey. Stay in touch. Let me know where you are and that you’re ok and know you’re always welcome here.
Thanks again! – Jake
Jake’s message again reminded me why this journey was so important to me. It was all about sharing and being of service to others. I was so happy that we had the opportunity to make such a great connection. His second email included the song title he wanted to use on this page.
That evening I made my way to another KOA Campground in the middle of the country. I paid for a primitive campsite and settled for a lovely, quiet evening. I worked on my journal for a few hours and planned my drive for the following day.
I went to bed around 11:30.
