The Big Picture
Day Thirty-Seven – March 25, 2010
During the last several days, I worked on my journal at Taylor’s kitchen table. The back door faced directly in front of me. I couldn’t remember which day it was, but at one point, I decided to open the door and let some fresh air into the house. I glanced at the door and saw an image of the Virgin Mary holding the Baby Jesus in the dog flap.
Was this the image of Christ I was looking for? On day thirty-seven, I set out to visit a couple of the missions in the San Antonio area. My first stop was the San Jose Mission.
While I was walking around the mission grounds, I came upon a crucifix. Sitting on that crucifix was a very courageous Mockingbird. The bird just sat on the cross and stared at me.
I walked closer and closer and took the following photo before it flew away.
Mockingbird brings the following medicine:
- Using knowledge gained on the outside to heal the inside
- Learning through experience
- Curiosity
- Attitude
- Territoriality
- Overcoming fear
- Intelligence

I continued to take photos while I explored the mission.
Once I finished exploring the San Jose Mission, I headed to the San Antonio Mission, known as the Alamo. It was a beautiful, sunny, clear day.
Before entering, I removed my hat and turned off my camera.
I couldn’t get over the size of the trees in the courtyard. They were majestic.
That evening, when Taylor got home from work, we ate and headed to the McNay Art Museum for a free night of art. We saw some fantastic pieces of art. We left the museum after dark and walked around the grounds briefly.
We returned to Taylor’s house and began the second half of the movie Giant, which I greatly enjoyed. We went to bed around midnight.
