I started my day with another positive meditation. After breakfast and checking out of my campground I drove to the Missoula, Montana Job Services office to register as a job seeker. I wanted to see if perhaps I could find something that would suit me in the Missoula area.
I left there and drove to the Texaco Xpress to change the oil in my truck. Afterward, I took Interstate 90 going west. I saw my first hawk of the day approximately thirty minutes into my drive. It swooped down right in front of me and then to the left before disappearing into the wilderness.
I hit the Idaho State Line approximately two hours later and crossed another time zone. I was now on Pacific Standard Time. I turned my clock back an hour and continued to my next destination.
Right after I crossed into Idaho, I saw my second hawk. This particular hawk glided directly across the interstate in front of me. It flew so low I could see the details in its feathers.
At that point, I remembered my time in North Carolina and my new friend, Ken. I met Ken a couple of weeks before leaving North Carolina, and we spent several days getting to know each other. During one of our last days together, Ken asked me a bizarre question: “What can I do for you, Chris?”
Jokingly, I said, “Well, you can make a truck payment for me if you like!” That’s when he wrote me a check for my next truck payment, and he wouldn’t take no for an answer. I hadn’t acknowledged his generosity or our time together in my journal. I believe the second hawk was reminding me of that fact. I wrote the following message in my journal:
“Thanks, Ken! That donation helped me tremendously. I greatly appreciate it and am glad you and I met.”
I continued west through the panhandle of Idaho, passing Coeur D’Alene and eventually making it to the Washington State Line. I drove through Spokane and continued south on Interstate 90/Highway 395. Since I was low on gas, I decided to pull over at a gas station, and that’s when I saw my third hawk of the day.
As I approached the end of the exit off the interstate, this hawk landed on top of a telephone pole directly beside the ramp. When I stopped to take a photo, the hawk looked down at me as if he had a message for me.
The bird was magnificent.
After filling up with gas, I continued through eastern Washington, eventually reaching the Columbia River. I left Washington State and drove across the river into Oregon, where I stayed at an RV Park/Marina right on the Columbia River.
At this point, I was three hours away from Portland.
I settled in for my night by the Columbia River and prepared for my next day.
